Ewa Biegas – soprano

The graduate of the Music Academy in Katowice in the singing class of Prof. Jan Ballarin and the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna in the singing class of Prof. Helena Łazarska. Laure-ate of many prestigious international vocal competitions. She was granted by the Polish government, by the Austrian government and by Dr. Robert Thyll-Dur Prestige Swiss Foundation. Among the artist’s recordings are: Monbar by I. F. Dobrzyński – role of Donna Maria (Polish Radio – conductor Ł. Borowicz), Baltic Legend by F. Nowowiejski – role of Bogna (Polish Radio – conductor Ł. Boro-wicz), Canzoni d’amore by E. Bogusławski, Stabat Mater by A. Dziadek (Katowice Radio – conductor M. Kaniowska), Lottery for a Husband by K. Szymanowski, role of Sara (Polish Radio – conductor M. Klauza), Chantefleurs et chantefables and 20 Christmas Carols by W. Lutosławski as well as Mass in E flat major and Te Deum by A. Dvořak (NAXOS – conductor A. Wit).

Her opera debut has taken place in 1999 at the stage of Studiobühne in Vienna where she sang the role of Lady Billows in Albert Herring by B. Britten. Since 2004 she collaborates with the Cracow Opera House (e.g. Halka: Halka, Marguerite: Faust, Mimi: La Bohème, Cio-Cio San: Madama Butterfly, Tatiana: Yevgeny Onegin, Ariadne: Ariadne auf Naxos). On the inauguration gala of the opening of the new seat of the Cracow Opera House, she sang the role of Joanna in The Devils from Loundon by K. Penderecki. She sang in such opera houses as the National Opera House in Warsaw, the Baltic Opera House, the Bytom Opera, the Opera Nova in Bydgoszcz, the Castle Opera in Szczecin and the Łódź Opera House. In 2009 artist sang in Vienna Kammeroper the role of Miss Wingrave in opera Owen Wingrave by B. Britten. She performed the role of Leonora in G. Verdi’s Il Trovatore during the Opera Festival Viva il canto in Cieszyn. Artist sang the world premiere of Missa pro pace by W. Kilar in St. Patrick Cathedral in New York and in Großer Saal of Vienna’s Konzerthaus on the occasion of the Poland’s accession to the European Union.

In the artistic season 2011/2012 she debuted on stage of Opera House in Montreal with the role of Princess in A.Dvorak’s opera Rusalka under the baton of J. Keenan and in Teatro Colon where she sang the role of Hagith in K. Szymanowski’s Hagith conducted by B. Bronnimann and directed by M. Znaniecki. In Buenos Aires she took part in the musical project Des Conocidos performing K. Szymanowski’s Hymns and P. Perkowski’s cycle Niebo w ogniu. In the 2014/2015 season she performed the role Titania in H. Purcell’s The fairy Queen at the Tigre Opera Festival in Argentina. In 2015 she was nominated for the prestigious Thalia Award for best opera role in 2015 for the creation of Tosca in G. Pucini’s Tosca at Opava Opera. In 2016 she made her debut as Leonora in the opera The Power of Destiny by Giuseppe Verdi at The Bytom Opera. Exclu-ding operatic and oratorio repertoire, she performs song cycles as well.
